The Power of Focus: Creating Our Own Reality

January 5, 2025

I was reading this book today called Transurfing: A Practical Course In Creating Your Own Reality by Vadim Zeland and I want to write about this as I’ve internalized it that we really have the power to create our own reality just on what we focus on. See, if we’re focusing on negative thoughts and internalizing that then we will see that in the world. The world really is a reflection of us, and when we see the world through a lens of scarcity, fear, negativity, when we are run by these emotions, then the world will reflect that. It will appear a more scary place to us. We will see the ugly, if that is what we choose to focus on.

The key here is that we have the choice, and many of us don’t realize it. Subconsciously, we ebb and flow and see what we see, but when we consciously take a step back and notice where our thoughts are, we can choose how to interpret the world - what lens to see through. So that we can choose to see the joy, the laughter, the flower blooming. Instead of, or despite, the sadness, the tears, the decomposing trash (Though that’s not to say there is inherent negativity or wrongness in focusing on, or seeing, the sadness, tears, or decomposing trash. There’s equal opportunity to find the beauty in all of these.)

By consciously choosing both where we focus and how we filter, we are able to receive news like the loss of a job or a speeding ticket without any overreaction, but just as an event, a neutral event, and say, “OK cool, what’s next?” As we release our grip on the world, and as we release our fears and insecurities, we open to a world of possibilities. Because there’s an infinite range of possible stimuli for us to focus on in any one moment: from the blades of grass, to the falling rain. From the honking car or the man yelling on his phone to the girl skipping and laughing down the sidewalk. From the argument you got in with your wife yesterday to the trip you have planned for next weekend. From the feeling of the air blowing across your face, to an infinite number of uncertainties in the future. This relates to our men’s embodiment work as we use this power of attention to take us into full awareness of the present moment where we can empower ourselves to act with clarity of intention from this place of stillness.

All of this brings us round to my question for you: What are you choosing to focus on? And what reality are you creating?
